[amerikanisch, 'klæmbeɪk], ursprünglich ein synonymer Ausdruck für Jamsession, also für ein informelles Zusammentreffen von Musikern zum zwanglosen gemeinsamen Musizieren. Der Swing-Posaunist und -Trompeter Tommy Dorsey (1905-1956) gebrauchte ihn z. B. in diesem Sinne im Namen der 1936 in seinem Orchester entstandenen Improvisationsband Tommy Dorsey's Clambake Seven. Später erhielt der Begriff eine zunehmend abwertende Bedeutung und galt im Jargon der Jazzmusiker dann nur noch als Bezeichnung für einfallsloses und unorganisiertes Zusammenspiel.
